On Sunday, March 18th the Granada Hills Charter Academic Decathlon team captured their second consecutive state Academic Decathlon crown.
Competing in Sacramento, the team beat out a crowded field of over 60 teams including second place El Camino Real Charter and third place Marshall High School, both of Los Angeles. Granada Hills Charter scored 52,327 (out of 60,000 possible points), more than 1,000 points higher than the second place team.

The team members are Lev Tauz, Sean Wejebe, Hamidah Mahmud, Christian Koguchi, Priscilla Liu, Kimberly Ly, Jimmy Wu, Stella Lee and Julia Wall. Their coaches are Matt Arnold, Spencer Wolf and Nick Weber.

"The Granada Hills Charter community is ecstatic about this amazing feat and honored to be represented by such an outstanding group of academic superstar students and their dedicated coaches," said Executive Director Brian Bauer. "We look forward to their triumphant return to campus."

The decathletes, their coaches, and administrator Julia Howelman returned to Granada Hills Charter Monday morning for a celebratory "welcome back" at the school entrance. A breakfast followed in the staff cafeteria for the team and their family members.

The team will proceed next month to Albuquerque, N.M. to defend the national title Granada Hills Charter captured last year.
