We Can Work Program
Granada Hills Charter High School has partnered with the Department of Rehabilitation for a wonderful opportunity for students to get jobs both on campus and at local retail stores in Granada Hills. This partnership, otherwise known as the We Can Work program, employs up to 25 students in 11th and 12th grade, who are 16 years of age or older. The We Can Work program is expected to continue through the 2017/18 school year and 2018/19 school year, which gives our students plenty of opportunities to gain experience in the work place with support.
This partnership has allowed for a relationship between Granada Hills Charter and retail stores including: TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Pet-i-tude Pet Store, GNC, and Famous Footwear. In addition, we have job opportunities on campus in the Student Store, Cafeteria, and as office assistants in various school offices. Granada Hills Charter Work Experience Coordinator provides instructional support to prepare students for the world of work. Students will gain experience and training in appropriate interview skills, the importance of punctuality and good attendance, work-appropriate attire, and most importantly, hands-on experience at a job!
The Special Education Department is excited to be able to provide this opportunity to our students with special needs, and see our students grow not only academically but also acquire job skills and real-life work experience!
