Global Human Initiative

THE GLOBAL HUMAN INITIATIVE (GHI) program focuses on philosophical, historical, and literary ideas on social justice. The team includes teachers from the arts, sciences, and math. The GHI teaching staff is passionate about supporting community, growing empathy, and working collaboratively to make people’s lives better. Teachers work on aligning skill instruction across departments to help students engage in projects for social change. The program spans grades 9-12.

THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS (ELA) course is comprised of texts that provide philosophical, literary, artistic and historical approaches to the influences that shape our world. In conjunction with the ELA course, students are enrolled in science and history classes that complement ideas learned in the GHI program, so that students can understand multiple perspectives in analyzing texts. Students develop critical reading, writing and thinking skills through interdisciplinary essays and reading of primary texts.
